Last year I posted LEARNING & LOVING and thought it would be fun to turn this into a monthly letter. One where we share back and forth. Celebratory chain-mail, if you will. But not the weird kind, like if you sign up then suddenly you get gremlin stickers in droves.
In no particular order, here’s what I’m LEARNING & LOVING this month:
LEARNING: When I make a choice, I first ask myself: “Am I doing this because if I don’t, I’m afraid I’ll disappoint this person?” If the thought is yes, my answer is no.
LOVING: Mint in my water. Obsessed with fresh mint in my water. I buy those cute lil’ plants and perch them on my windowsill and every morning she lends me her leaves and they float in a Mason Drinking Jar.
LEARNING: Time goes fast. In 9 years our oldest will be 18 (icantevenfathom) and it’s easy to lose sight of the future when we’re in the thick of homework and sports and friends for dinner. Every other week Bryan and I are swapping sons for a one-on-one date. Hello quality time. Hello memories. Hello, hold your mama’s hand.
LEARNING: I’ve sensed God nudging me to be still- to quiet social media fuzz and other online distractions (letter about this arriving soon) – to focus on one thing at a time and complete it before moving on. At first I was petrified because what if I miss out on life, but you see, I was. I was missing out on my life because I was trying to fuel online energy instead of in real time. Balance, balance, balance. Being still is what my soul needs in this season to refill, recharge and pay attention to quiet pockets where clutter isn’t welcome.
LOVING: Front Porch Tea from Piper & Leaf (I know, can you handle the name?) You guys, this tea. A friend and I have plans to drive 1 1/2 hours to their Alabama shop for a tea latte. It’s that good. Rant done.
LOVING: Carrying notecards and stamps in my bag. When I’m out and about and a friend pops on my heart, bam! Letter writing and mailing it is. Long live snail mail.
LOVING: Voxer and audio texts. I am the world’s slowest texter and therefore get GIDDY about sending verbal words through my phone to a friend’s. Nothing like babbling about Front Porch Tea and how I got my butt kicked in Hip Hop class. You’re welcome.
LOVING: Emily Freeman’s podcast. It’s basically like Christmas came early.
LEARNING: Reframing the concept of a platform into a pasture; an equal space to share and encourage and learn from others. The idea of Pasture makes this girl’s heart happy and frees me up to communicate from a soul- nourished knowing.
