Pasture Premier: Come As WE Are

bekah General Leave a Comment

In June I collaborated with Kim Leggett from City Farmhouse, Franklin – a kind soul and creative designer – at her event venue in Franklin’s Factory. I shared on the topic of #realisthenewperfect, a chapter from my book, Choosing REAL. Women from the community gathered in her whimsy space to drink wine, enjoy nibbles and meet over authenticity and faith and much in-between.

And I came home feeling alive and thought, That was fun!

the next morning when I had a flood of messages and emails asking,

How did you gather all of those women?
I loved that we met at a space that wasn’t church, but still talked about Jesus.
Can you do this again?
Can you do this again?
Can you…?

And my heart pounded as I read, and I wondered, Is this a need? Do women long for a beautiful non-church, non-home space to come as they are and connect, have intentional conversations, share their stories, and experience an evening that nourishes their soul?

So I prayed. And holy moly women have been coming out of the woodwork.

I want to be a part of making this a thing.
How can I help?
I’ve been praying about being a part of something like this for years.
Can I teach a workshop at Pasture?

After much prayer and pushing aside my trepidation of starting a monthly experience for women when I’VE ONLY BEEN IN NASHVILLE 3 MONTHS, I’m going for it. I’m saying YES to an incredible team forming – women who have a desire to find connection and community and seek Jesus and talk about all things genuine – and we’re starting.

That’s right. We’re starting right where we are.

Pasture: Intentional Conversation & Curated Experiences to Nourish One’s Soul

Pasture is inspired by Psalm 23. Visually, a pasture is an open meadow, an abundant space representing our spiritual journey. A land of restoration, protection, and nourishment. Pasture encompasses slopes and hills but is made up of a level field- no hierarchy or platforms- just roaming and coming and going in the safety of where God is carrying us. Pasture provides welcomeness and community. Pasture is for me and you; for us as a community.

As I’ve been dreaming about Pasture, I found myself going into my former Event Manager mode.

I need to find the perfect venue. We need a place to drink wine and have dessert but I want it to be low cost, an evening everyday women can afford. Mamas who are tired. Hard working women who need a night to just relax and feel known. Something for the single and married and young and wise. The creative. The introvert. The extrovert. The real soul seeking Jesus in a space not specifically connected to a church or tribe.

I was talking to my amazing sister in law, Jen (who designed Pasture’s logo- holla!!) about this finding-a-venue-anxiety and God straight up spoke from her lips:

You know when you are your best? When you’re not trying to be anyone other than you. When you come as YOU are – in process, messy, trusting the details to work out in His timing – that’s what people need. Not another show.

Here I was hoping to create an experience for women to come as THEY are, when I must first be able to come as I AM and trust that is enough.

I picked up my shoulders, dusted off my doubt and her words stay with me even now. Don’t we want that? Not another dialed-in event or perfectly orchestrated meet-up? I have a hundred reasons why I’m not the person to start Pasture but I have a fafillion reasons why I believe God is bigger than anything I can self-manufacture. This really has little to do with me anyhow.

So if you too desire down-home, come-as-we-are connection, and a beautiful space to gather and share about real life topics, I’ll be speaking from Choosing REAL chapters every month (topics below), inviting friends to share their faith pioneering stories, collaborating with local creatives for curated experiences AND sending you home with a book that enhances Pasture’s monthly heartbeat.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me

in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
