Confessions of a New Author: The Beginning

Here’s the deal.

I’m learning this Author thing as I go.
I really have no idea what I’m doing.

None of us do until we’re in the thick of it and trudging along thinking, This is kinda messy and unclear and thrilling but I am getting somewhere. Somehow I’m getting somewhere.

This somewhere is what I’m inviting you into.

I don’t know about you, but when I browse a bookstore and a catchy cover demands my eye, when I pull it from the shelf, read the back, and gleefully march it to the front to purchase, I often wonder, How did this thing happen? Like the entire backstory? How did this book come to life?

Some of my favorite authors have shared bites and hints of their story but I want more.

I want the in-the-moment pieces, the hard details, the holy connecting of dots, the conversations, the reasons for re-dos. Like please tell me, how was it that a publisher signed you one day and then suddenly poof! you’re on shelves all over? I want the steps leading up to that moment.

You know what I’m sayin?

So here’s my promise. I’m choosing to take you on this book-proposal-turned-book-writing adventure. I’m committing to confess honest questions, the ones where I’m talking to myself or banging my head against the desk, as well as instances when inspiration strikes at midnight and I jot lipstick notes on the bathroom mirror to remember for the next morning. (True story. Ask Bry. Poor guy thought it meant something else.) I’ll share what I can about interacting with editors, what a copy and pub board are, about interesting facets I’ll no doubt inhale with tenacious gulps.

Because I believe the journey is everything. And if you’ve traveled with me this far, you know it doesn’t happen in just one day. It happens a million days before. Book writing began more than two years ago when I picked up an unsure foot and chose to push myself to carry a light ignited years before that, to hold it high and tight and declare, Okay, let’!

Who’s with me?

‘Cuz it’s about to get a wholelotta REAL as I write CHOOSING REAL.

    Yours, lil mom ❤️

  3. I am thrilled.. You have a gift my little friend..I have seen it from the time you were a little girl.

1 Cor. 12 God’s various gifts are handed out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various ministries are carried out everywhere; but they all originate in God’s Spirit. God’s various expressions of power are in action everywhere; but God himself is behind it all. Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful:

You have the gift of being real, honest, encouraging, and are able to communicate that verbally and in word. So happy you are using it. I love you and i cannot wait to read along, and walk along with you as you do this!! Yahoos!!! Love you
